We always glad to do or say anv thing we can in favor of schools. School teaching is a ImsiiH'ss just as much as mer chandising or any other busi ness out of which a man gets a living. And the better the liv ing, the more self importance attached t the principal. Many a man who runs a little "High" school gets the idea into his head that he is a great educa tor, and when he can offer a fnr scholarship styles himself, philanthropist. But the people know letter. We leceived a catalogue from such a one a few days ago containing the modest request that we "read, especial ly pages and , &c, com ment on the same, and send ('ly of paper, &c.,'? the same h;'ing written on the catalogue and sent under one cent post age, in open violation of the postal laws. We see an advertisement for agents for "The Confederate Soldier in the Civil War." It is to be hoped that no more of those books can be sold in North Carolina. We have received the hand some and interesting Commence ment Number of the State Nor mal Magazine, published by the Normal and Industrial College. Greensboro. Jail for Delinquents. Attorney (leneral Walscr writes Treasurer Worth as follow : "It is my opinion each piano and organ salesman must have a license with him in order that he shall have protection from indictment. In reply to a letter from V S Lusk referred to me, it is my opinion that section 51 and 53 of the revenue act apply to all taxes alike. At first I thought the provisions unconstitu tional as being m contravention of the provision of the. constitution of the state which provide that thore shall be no imprisonment in this state for debt, but after some con sideration I have concluded they are valid."
